Murray Rothbard
Murray Newton Rothbard (2. marts 1926 – 7. januar 1995) var en amerikansk økonom og politisk filosof, som ved sin død fremstod som en af de fremmeste fortalere for moderne libertarianisme og anarko-kapitalisme. Han var ligeledes en ledende eksponent for den såkaldte østrigske skole indenfor økonomien, der bl.a. tæller Henry Hazlitt, Ludwig von Mises samt den mere moderne Peter Schiff, der forudså Finanskrisen 2007-2008.
Rothbard blev inspireret af liberalisme og den østrigske skole, da han deltog i Mises undervisning i 1950'erne. I 60'erne og 70'erne udgav han flere bøger, omhandlede USA's historie, typisk koncentreret omkring oprettelsen af USA's centralbank (FED) og diverse finansielle kriser, såsom depressionen. Derudover omhandlede hans bøger også politik og økonomi. Som de fleste indenfor den østrigske skole var han stærkt kritisk overfor FED og Fractional Reserve Banking, som han mente gjorde bankerne insolvente, eftersom de lånte penge ud de ikke havde. Det anså han som værende bedrageri, og han anbefalede derfor en tilbagevending til guld-standarden.
