Andreas Sune Rosforth Johnsen is an autodidact Danish documentary director, producer, cinematographer and owner of Rosforth born on June 26, 1974. Since 2002 he has made a number of documen-taries as both a director and a producer. Especially he is known for the films Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case (2013) about the dissident Chinese artist who lives under deep control and re-strictions by the Chinese government, Kidd Life (2012) about the Danish rapper and Youtube-phenomenon Nicholas Westwood and Natasja (2008) about the Danish singer Natasja Saad, who’s life tragically ended in a car accident on Jamaica in 2007.
Andreas Johnsen seeks to tell the small story in the greater picture with his magnificent ability to portray artists who con-front the establishment and try to make their way on their own. In his own words “for me it is important to try to make the audience have the experience of being there. When you watch the films I want you to have the feeling that you are experiencing it as it takes place”. Andreas Johnsen is pure in his point of view and has a natural interest in the struggles of both upcom-ing and established artists and the difficult conditions they sometimes are up against.
The Danish newspaper ‘Information’ wrote in 2013 about Johnsens work with Ai Weiwei: “It is obvious, that Andreas Johnsen approach his work in a very special way. Though he doesn’t say much in the film, he is strongly present with his camera. Quietly he communicates with Ai Weiwei and is both asking the necessary, journalistic questions and the great questions, that clearly makes the artist start thinking”.
Andreas Johnsen received the acknowledged Danish Film Critics Award in 2014 for Best Doc-umentary with Ai Weiwei: The Fake Case, and in addition to that he has been granted various of special mentions for his work with documentary films.
