Photo of the Andrea Doria as the liner begins to sink after a collision with the Swedish vessel Stockholm off Nantucket Island, Massachusetts in July 1956. Note that there are shadows in the photo because they were taken from the window of a plane.
A search of original copyright registrations for the year 1956 shows only one photo of the vessel registered. It was taken as the Andrea Doria was outbound from Italy on this last voyage.
Checking copyright.gov turned up no renewals for en:Boston Evening Traveller, which went out of business in 1967, or Harry Trask, the Boston Traveller photographer who took this photo. As shown above none of the three mentioned filed to copyright the photo in 1956. This is being licensed as copyright not renewed, though there is enough evidence to prove that original copyright was never filed.
