Translation request[rediger kildetekst]

Hello. I am coordinating translations of articles about several Austrian writers and their (recent) books. I would like to ask you to translate the article about the short novel Hominide by Klaus Ebner to Danish. From the link you can also choose a German, French or Spanish version if this is easier for you. If you need help, you can always contact me on my English or German user page. Thank you for your endeavors. Irina Walter, Baden (Austria) --Irina Walter AT 21. jun 2010, 12:33 (CEST)

a list of danish keywords[rediger kildetekst]

Hello,

I'm doing my project into language processing and I'm using Wikipedia. I want to use several languages in the tests, included the one of this versions. And since I need some articles to analyze I wanted to ask for your help. Precisely, some keywords I will explain now.

Actually what I am looking for is a list in your language with the names of those territories which represents an entity of speakers (therefore possible wikipedia contributors) of your language, the name its people or gentilic, and the name of the language (if it is the same language and it has a different name). These territories must be in practice independent from each others or at least be considered so by the speakers. This is the case of colonies, excolonies, other countries which historically speak the same language or minorities attached into the country next to yours.

For example, a list in english something like. "english", "england", "irish", "ireland", "scottish", "scotland", "british", "united_kingdom", "american", "united_states", "canada", "canadian", "australia", "australian", "new_zealand", "new_zealander". Probably there are some others which are not very big but I don't know cuz I'm not familiar.

If you were so kind to produce me this list, I would so appreciate it! Thank you very much!

Difficulty creating a company page at the english wikipedia site. It gets erased all the time[rediger kildetekst]

Hello I have been trying to create a page for LORC Lindoe Offshore Renewables Center at the http://en.wikipedia.org/

But somehow it gets erased. How can I possibly maximise the survival of my page - the company is a business fund and there for not a business per se.

Kind regards

Anne Korsgaard for LORC(skrev 193.163.240.28 (disk. • bidrag) 7. dec 2010, 11:52. Husk at signére dine indlæg.)

Hi Anne.
First of all I think it would be more useful for you to contact the English Wikipedia as they have other policies than this Wikipedia. But the reason of deletion has been stated as follows from section A7 here. This policy allows a sysop to delete the article without further discussion, as the article doesn't indicate the relevance of the topic, i.e. why that foundation is special in its field and therefore deserves an article in an international encyclopedia.
That said, it is also not well seen to post articles about subjects you are too close to, for example work for. This bleakens your neutrality and ability to tell wether the subject has relevance. Plus it makes it harder to write a neutral article.
I can see that you have also edited in the Danish article which you should also be careful before doing - especialy without stating any references for your statements. The current article lacks alot and I would also consider that one for deletion if no references show up.
I hope this gave you some answers. Best regards Sabbe 7. dec 2010, 12:16 (CET)

Foundation Images Policy[rediger kildetekst]

Hi everyone,
I am Yosri from Malay Wikipedia. Recently I was informed by certain parties that MS Wiki need to delete any images tagged as Non-Commercial under Foundation Licensing policy. After I have done some studies, I realised that Wikipedia Foundations is moving towards allowing commercialises all images, as such they are acting on behalf of commercial company to require all images loaded with tagging Non-Commercial in all Wiki Project to be removed, including those loaded in local Wiki. You are only allowed to licenses your images under "free content", which specifically allows commercial reuse, example GDLF 1.2. Certain images is exempted under a very narrow EDP ("exemption doctrine policy") definition. If you all already aware about this, please ignore this comment. Otherwise, for more details please visit http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Village_pump#Wikimedia_projects_still_using_non-commercial-only_images.3F Yosri 2. mar 2011, 06:01 (CET)

100 Books of the Century[rediger kildetekst]

Hi Danish Embassy,
I do not speak Danish.
But I have translated this book list en:Le Monde's 100 Books of the Century into Danish.

Can you tell me a good title for the page in Danish Wikipedia?
"Le Monde" is the newspaper in Paris.
Thanks very much, Varlaam 25. apr 2011, 05:48 (CEST)

The other wikis has chosen names that would translate into "Århundredets 100 bøger ifølge Le Monde" in Danish. I prefer "Det 20. århundredes 100 bøger ifølge Le Monde" over that, since writing just century/århundrede is inaccurate. --Santac 25. apr 2011, 07:29 (CEST)
I concur with Santac's views on this one, with a slight difference; I think the most correct title might be "Det 20. århundredes 100 bedste bøger ifølge Le Monde", as this captures the essence of the article. --Medic (Lindblad) 25. apr 2011, 09:19 (CEST)
You really want to be inconsistent with all the other languages, eh?
Have any important books been written in the 21st century? So important that a newspaper would organize a poll to learn people's opinions?
I think it is premature to be considering the 21st century as a possibility in a context like this one.
I have asked for help at many Embassies, and I don't remember anyone else stressing the importance of "20th century".
Varlaam 1. maj 2011, 07:13 (CEST)[svar]
Yes, we like accuracy in the Danish Wikipedia. I agree with Medic's title solution. --Sabbe 1. maj 2011, 07:40 (CEST)[svar]
"The Century" could also refer to the 19th or 18th - except that Le Monde wasn't around back then.. --Palnatoke 1. maj 2011, 07:46 (CEST)[svar]
Hello again.
When I was speaking to you in 2011, it was only 3 weeks after I was in the hospital in intensive care.
I don't like the tone I was using here. I sound rude.
So I am sorry about that. I do apologize. I enjoyed Denmark very much when I visited in 1987. My favourite museum in the world is probably the Louisiana; I like to tell people to go there.
Now, other Wikipedia projects do in fact like to say "20th century" here, not just "century".
Danish is no longer unique in that respect.
I will be setting up the page as Det 20. århundredes 100 bøger ifølge Le Monde.
I am not going to use the word "bedste" because the people in Paris did not choose the "best" books, they chose the most memorable books. Is a Tintin adventure story one of the best books of the century? No.
Thank you for your recommendations.
And, again, I was suffering from a brain hemorrhage when we last spoke.

[English original]Greetings, could anybody help the English Wikipedia community with something? There is an Internet rumor, perhaps a hoax, that claims that it's a common modern Nordic belief that the English word for this "Hvedebrødsdage" tradition, "Honeymoon", is a vulgarization of an Old Norse term "hjunottsmanathr". The rumor goes, "After kidnapping one's bride, she was kept hidden away until pregnant or her family stopped looking for her, and then was brought back to formalize the wedding. Also some believe that the moon part of it comes from that after on cycle of the moon, 28 days the family would be more likely to give up search because the girl would more likely be pregnant." Is there any veracity to this? Thanks Tour86rocker 14. okt 2011, 00:38 (CEST)

"Spørgehjørnet" is for children and young adults, i.e. not what Schyler is looking for. - Kåre Thor Olsen (Kaare) 18. okt 2011, 20:50 (CEST)
I don't believe we have a directly similar feature; however, most questions are usually handled at either the village pump, called Landsbybrønden, or the beginner's support forum Nybegynderforum. Maybe these pages will be able to handle your queries? --Medic (Lindblad) 20. okt 2011, 10:08 (CEST)

Language support group for Danish[rediger kildetekst]

The Wikimedia Foundation has brought together a new team of developers who are dedicated to language support. This team is to support all the languages and consequently it is not realistic to expect that the team members can provide proper support for your language. It is for this reason that we are looking for volunteers who will make up a language support team.

This language support team will be asked to provide us with information about their language. Such information may need to be provided either to us or on a website that we will indicate to you. Another activity will be to test software that will likely have an effect on the running of the MediaWiki software. We are looking for people who clearly identify their ability. Formal knowledge is definitely appreciated.

As much of the activity will be concentrated on translatewiki.net, it will be a plus when team members know how to localise at translatewiki.net. Thanks, Gmeijssen 20. okt 2011, 03:29 (CEST)

Barry Jennings[rediger kildetekst]

The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time[rediger kildetekst]

(engelsk) Hi Denmark,
I have been compiling a Danish version of the English book list, en:The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time.
(I earlier created the Danish version of "100 Books of the Century" that we discussed higher up on this page.)
What would be a good name for this new page in Danish?

I personally do not like the title of the English page, since it does not say "according to ..."
A better title might be "The Top 100 Crime Novels according to British and American authors", or something like that.
In Toronto, Varlaam (diskussion) 27. dec 2013, 19:18 (CET)

Well, it's finished.
So I'll just use the English page name, The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time, shall I?
Varlaam (diskussion) 1. jan 2014, 21:25 (CET)
Fine.
Anyone who is interested in mystery novels, you can reference the English language page cited above, or my Norwegian translation of it: no:Tidenes 100 beste kriminalromaner.
Happy New Year, Varlaam (diskussion) 2. jan 2014, 20:32 (CET)
At huwiki, they needed 8 hours to translate "The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time" into Hungarian.
At rowiki, they needed 3 hours to translate "The Top 100 Crime Novels of All Time" into Romanian.
So huwiki and rowiki both have a book list page now, which they can read, or not read, whatever.
It exists for anyone who is interested in the topic, and people who enjoy mystery books are free to do more work on the page.
My PC is very slow. It is not easy to keep checking this page all the time.
Why have an Embassy here if no one ever reads this page?
What is the point?
Just wondering, Varlaam (diskussion) 3. jan 2014, 17:18 (CET)
I do think that people are reading your input. I just think that we do not have enough crime-fiction enthusiasts to translate your list. A lot of the authors on your list are probably in the Danish Wikipedia, but many of the works listed have no Danish article. — Fnielsen (diskussion) 3. jan 2014, 21:09 (CET)
Besides Fnielsen's comments, there's also the matter of our list policy; as the page stands now on enwiki, it wouldn't be allowed here due to said policy, since e.g. the intro is tiny and doesn't explain the relevancy of the list(s). Also, the purpose of the embassy page is outlined in the box at the top of the page - it doesn't include translation requests, even if it sometimes has been used for that purpose, so you aren't necessarily reaching the expected audience (if it exists at all). - Kåre Thor Olsen (Kaare) (diskussion) 3. jan 2014, 21:26 (CET)
I am very much aware that dawiki does not have every article. I have translated the list, after all.
The relevancy of the list? Seriously?
The most important professional association of crime writers in Britain picked their 100 best. Then the American association of crime writers picked their 100 best.
These 2 organizations, the CWA and the MWA, give out the world's most famous and most important awards for crime and mystery fiction, the Dagger Awards and the Edgar Awards.
Varlaam (diskussion) 10. jan 2014, 05:49 (CET)
You already have this page here: Palle Rosenkrantz Prisen
Here Danish writers are giving awards to the exact same writers who you claim are irrelevant and unimportant.

Hi, sorry for writing in English, but clearly my Danish is not good enough... :-) Some time ago I created Richard G. Morris, based on a machine translation. It was not purely a machine translation, because I combined translations from different languages and as I speak several Germanic languages (English, German, and a little bit of Swedish), I made some more corrections based on that knowledge. Apparently that was not enough, because Pixi Uno deleted it as a machine translation. If I ask them to userfy the article (it was basically just a short stub of one paragraph), would there perhaps be somebody here willing to help me and correct my bad Danish? Morris is a very well-known neuroscientist (many people may have heard of the Morris water navigation task that he designed) and it would be nice to have an article on him here, too. Ten years of Wikipedia in Asturian language[rediger kildetekst]

Excuse me for not speaking Danish yet.

Oviedo, September 8, 2014

Asturian is alive and in use.

Next September 12 and 13, the Asturian Wikipedia community of users will celebrate with the support of [www.wikimedia.es Wikimedia España Chapter] the tenth anniversary of Uiquipedia, the free encyclopedia in Asturian. The events will take place in Auditorio Príncipe Felipe (Plaza La Gesta, Oviedo).

The first article in Asturian was «Zazaki», a minority language spoken in Turkey. That first edit was in July 26, 2004. Ten years later, more than 800 000 edits have been made on almost 20 000 articles, and numbers are growing every day with the work of tens of volunteers. And it doesn’t stop there: other Wikimedia projects in Asturian have developed, such as Wikicionary, Wikisource and Wikiquote. Managed by Wikimedia Foundation, all of them make part of a global movement that started in 2001 when Wikipedia started with the goal of delivering freely all human knowledge.

To commemorate this date, Uiquipedia and Wikimedia España are carrying out two days of celebration events so that the projects in Asturian are better known. Literature, poetry music and traditions in Asturian will be present. It’s free and everybody is welcome. In addition, Wikimedia España will have its annual General Assembly in Oviedo.

See here the schedule of activities.

Monuments of Spain Challenge[rediger kildetekst]

Excuse me for not speaking Danish yet.

Wikimedia España invites you to join the Monuments of Spain Challenge. And what’s that? It’s a contest. You have to edit, translate or expand articles about the Spanish monuments and you will be granted points. So you’re not just writing about wonderful buildings: you can get prizes!

The time of the contest will include all October and any information you may need is right here.

Join in and good luck!

PS: We would be grateful if you could translate this note into Danish.

B25es on behalf of Wikimedia España.

I'd also translate replies in english et je traduirais des réponses en français. Mit freundlichen Grüßen --Eloquenzministerium (diskussion) 6. maj 2015, 02:45 (CEST)[svar]

I've raised the issue on our admin-board, Wikipedia:Anmodning om administratorassistance/Lidt hjælp til de tyske kolleger. Knud Winckelmann (diskussion) 7. maj 2015, 09:47 (CEST)[svar]

I've got to know, that the level of literacy in Denmark is very low. Would you ,please deal with Danish language only, and stop spreading lies about other people's languages. Or, if you really belive you are professionals (which is higly impossible, but everyone has the right of illusions), then check the historical facts, before writing articles. If Bulgaria seems too far away from Danmark (which is, literaly and not), Then take a look in Vatikan's library, for eksemple.
           Frankly, illiteracy is offensive!

Hello, I don't speak Danish.

I have changed the article named above using Skabelon:Dødt link. The result is not as I expected. Help is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Thanks for putting our attention to the problem. There must be an error in the template and we will look into it. Meanwhile, I have been searching for an alternative live link, but haven't found one. Eventually, we will simply have to remove the link entirely. --Arne (Amjaabc) (diskussion) 28. aug 2015, 21:24 (CEST)

High School Musical 4[rediger kildetekst]

While checking Wikidata sitelinks on an item about the High School Musical franchise I found a link to High School Musical 4 on this wiki. This film hasn't gotten past the rumour stage yet. No actual hiring was done, no actual filming has started. Even IMDB hasn't heared of the movie yet. The IMDb link in the article doesn't exist. Unfortunatly my Danish isn't well enough to nominate it for deletion myself as I don't think this meets the criteria for speedy deletion and needs to follow the normal deletion procedure. Can someone nominate the article for deletion? Mbch331 (diskussion) 4. nov 2015, 23:25 (CET)

Thank you for notifying us. I have deleted the article. --Cgt (diskussion) 5. nov 2015, 09:50 (CET)

Wikiproject Erasmus Prize Winners[rediger kildetekst]

Dear fellow wikipedians,

My apologies for using English here, please help translate if you are able.
Wikipedia has been awarded the Erasmus Prize 2015. This prize is awarded annually to a person or institution that has made an exceptional contribution to culture, society or social science. The King of the Netherlands will present the award on 25 November. This will create media attention which will hopefully result in plenty of new volunteers. Prior to the award ceremony we would like to write and improve articles on former Erasmus Prize winners. All 80 former laureates should be notable enough to merit an article.

Please join the project and help us provide our fellow laureates with articles.

Sincerely, Taketa and FrankTMeijer (diskussion) 8. nov 2015, 19:35 (CET)

Hi. I'm the editor of pl.wiki and recently wrote about Vilhelm Buhl there. You have the information that he had 4 children, but there is no source. The only thing I found is a private genealogy website, which isn't reliable enough to be used as a source. Could someone find this information in an old newspaper or a book? I think this information might be in one of books given in the bibliography: "Carl Otto Brix, Politikeren Vilhelm Buhl, Privatforlaget, 2009", but I don't have an access to that book. Maybe someone have and might check it or find another source which provides this information? Thanks in advance, Żyrafał (diskussion) 26. okt 2017, 17:06 (CEST)

WikiScienceCompetition 2017[rediger kildetekst]

Hi! Wiki Science Competition has started, sitenotices have appeared for sure in Spain, Austria, Russian Federation, USA and Ukraine, and Italy will be join very soon with a massive national campaign.

As a member of the academic committee I did my best to reduce the gap between countries both in the composition of the juries and now in the outreach. I did inform many platforms (enwiki, eswiki, frwiki) during the preparation of the event, now I am informing all national institutions, associations and federations of science and technology I can contact, especially those located in countries without national juries (so, also in Danemark) and I am posting notes on LinkedIn groups everyday, and I am contacting national chapters and user groups.. and so on. That's why I am here.

We prepared banners for many countries but on meta they say it is not wise to use them all, so if you want to use the style and do one here on your wiki for few days, just let us know. In your case the banner is not country-specific so it is generic.

Otherwise, if you have social media and you want to inform your friends and colleagues, the twitter hashtags are #WSC2017, #WikiScience2017, #WikiScience

Thank you in advance and whatever you do(join, inform, ignore) have fun!Alexmar983 (diskussion) 4. nov 2017, 06:58 (CET)

I have informed all your universities and research canters, but I hardly doubt the information will circulate. the Danish category will remain empty. Well, you can't have everything.--Alexmar983 (diskussion) 9. nov 2017, 05:40 (CET)

Wikimedia Sustainability Initiative[rediger kildetekst]

Hi all. Please help us to translate Sustainability Initiative on meta in your language and add your name to the list of supporters to show your commitment to environment protection. Let's spread the word! Kind regards, --Daniele Pugliesi (diskussion) 28. nov 2018, 17:39 (CET)

Password reset request from IP 87.49.147.95[rediger kildetekst]

I have received by email a password reset notification, stating that IP 87.49.147.95 has requested to reset my password on this Wikipedia.

This may be a harmless mistake, but if part of a pattern may be an attempt to hack Wikipedia. This particular attempt will not succeed but other attempts may.

So I suggest a watch here for any similar activity here.

I can be contacted in need on my English Wikipedia talk page

or by email, but please note I speak no Danish! Andrewa (diskussion) 17. jan 2019, 20:12 (CET)

Revox article[rediger kildetekst]

Hello,

this article I startet got a hint by a colleague KnudW. I think it was a good watching, partly I used and unfortunately overestimated glosbe translate. I would be glad, if one native speaker control and amend this article. I'm happy to receive a small feedback, too. Thank you very much in advance. Best regards from Germany, --Wikisympathisant (diskussion) 17. maj 2020, 12:09 (CEST)[svar]

I would very much like to support W, but find it very cumbersome to donate money. give me an easi method to transfer.

Contributions by บุญพฤทธิ์ ทวนทัย[rediger kildetekst]

User:บุญพฤทธิ์ ทวนทัย is a contributor based at the Thai Wikipedia who has created machine translations of articles and spamming them over a wide range of Wikipedia languages, including here. While the subjects of the articles he has created are (mostly) notable, the mistake of creating articles in languages he does not understand has led to extremely bad quality, probably at the level of illegibility. Unless local editors are willing to start a clean-up effort, I suggest that his contributions be deleted. Someone who knows the language can later write proper articles about the subjects. --Paul 012 (diskussion) 11. nov 2020, 09:47 (CET)

The user hasn't made huge contributions on da-wiki, and the few remaining ones have been checked and does not seem to have real problems. --Arne (Amjaabc) (diskussion) 11. nov 2020, 10:20 (CET)

Cross-wiki sockpuppetry[rediger kildetekst]

Hi, I'm Blablubbs from the English Wikipedia. I wanted to alert you that we recently discovered two sockpuppets whose only purpose appears to be to promote Ross Kolby across multiple Wikis (please see en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Constituto/Archive for more information). This included the expansion of an article on the Norwegian Wikipedia, which one of the accounts later translated into Danish. It appears that there is either a strong conflict of interest or paid editing involved here. Both accounts have since been globally locked. I don't speak Danish or Norwegian, so I can't assess its current state, but if someone has time it may be a good idea to look at the article, especially since the English version also contained copyright violations. Thanks and best wishes, Blablubbs (diskussion) 6. mar 2021, 21:05 (CET)

Yes Blablubbs, but the policy of the administrators here on Danish Wikipedia is to accept cross wiki spam (a policy that I strongly oppose). The rationale seems to be: Let Danish Wikipedia have as many articles in numbers, to seem big compared on other wikis. This will not change unless the WMF intervenes and overrules the dawiki administrators in some ways. As to the article in question, yes it has already been marked as of questionable quality, but as you understand this cannot bu changed withou outside intervention. --Madglad (diskussion) 7. mar 2021, 23:31 (CET)
The above comment from Madglad is his own opinion. I have checked the article in question, and it seems like our Norwegian colleague Orland has cleaned up it. If it had not been done, I would have made a similar cleaning. --Arne (Amjaabc) (diskussion) 8. mar 2021, 10:45 (CET)
