Whereas the Board seeks to respond responsibily to longstanding community concerns about issues of compatibility between the GNU Free Documentation License and the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA license, as well as to continue longstanding traditions of strong community input and control over major decisions affecting the projects, and whereas a long period of discussion and negotiation between and amongst the Free Software Foundation, Creative Commons, the Wikimedia Foundation and others has produced a proposal supported by both the FSF and Creative Commons to modify the Free Documentation License in such a fashion as to allow the possibility for the Wikimedia Foundation to migrate the projects to CC-BY-SA, and whereas, Creative Commons and the Free Software Foundation (FSF) would like formal support for this license change, it is hereby resolved that:

• The Foundation requests that the GNU Free Documentation License be modified in the fashion proposed by the FSF to allow migration by mass collaborative projects to the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA license;
• Upon the announcement of that relicensing, the Foundation will initiate a process of community discussion and voting before making a final decision on relicensing.

Jeg tror de forventer at det vil lette videreanvendelsen af wikimaterialet, og generelt gøre lincensspørgsmålet mere forståeligt, og det kan der jo nok være brug for. - I praksis tror jeg ikke det vil gøre den store forskel for os . - Nico 2. dec 2007, 17:39 (CET)

I praksis har det jo været kontraproduktivt at kræve at en person der bruger et uddrag af en artikel eller et enkelt billede fra Wikipedia andetsteds, så også lige skal huske at gengive 3-4 A4 sider med hele GNU licensen uden ændringer osv. Det betyder jo i praksis at mange slutbrugere har ignoreret formalia, og at vi har vist at de gjorde det. At sætte et CC-BY-SA mærke på noget er enklere og licensen kan koges ned til et par linjer (du må ændre indholdet og sågar sælge det, men du skal give andre retten til at gøre det samme med resultatet, og du skal huske at kreditere dem der lavede det oprindelige arbejde). I praksis tror jeg ikke at et skifte vil ændre det praktiske arbejde overhovedet, men et skift vil forhåbentligt gøre det lettere at få andre til at huske at kreditere Wikipedia.
