HMS Lion var en slagkrydser bygget til Royal Navy i 1910'erne. Hun var det ledende skib af hendes klasse, som fik øgenavnet "Pragtfulde Katte". De var væsentlige forbedringer i forhold til deres forgængere af den Utrættelige klasse i form af hastighed, armering og bevæbning. Dette var en reaktion på den første tyske slagkrydsere, Moltke klasse, som var meget større og mere kraftfuld end den første Britiske slagkrydsere, Invincible - klassen.
