Mina Jaf, born in Iraqi Kurdistan, is a grass-root activist and international advocate for the rights of women and girls affected by conflict and displacement, for over ten years. She is the recipient of the Courage Award by Women’s Refugee Commission (WRC) in New York and has founded Women’s Refugee Route (WRR) - an NGO that works to empower female refugees to become effective self-advocates and shape refugee, asylum and migration policies and to change the system of decision-making in migration policy by including refugee women in the process.

Mina Jaf was born in Kurdistan, and at 11 years old was forced by fleeing to Denmark as a refugee together with her mother and siblings. Mina is identified as a feminist and has dedicated herself to work on refugee and on women’s rights issues, bringing her personal experience and perspective on gender inequality to her vocal advocacy and work with refugees. She has been named as one of the most influential people under 30 by Forbes in the category “Europe’s 30 under 30 – Law & Policy”

Mina Jaf has been involved in the campaign Equal Pension Rights for Women NOW

In 2015 Mina Jaf was involved in the European Voluntary Service (EVS), an Erasmus+ programme, where she volunteered in the association Vluchtelingenwerk, which gives the chance to people to help asylum seekers and refugees by doing simple things. In her EVS, she not only deals with the planning of volunteer teams in charge of the asylum seekers, but also manages a team of 20 people daily. Through her experience, she has gained tremendous experience by being at the NGO’s office and onsite with refugees. This EVS experience has allowed her to develop her own skills, such as languages, management, leadership, and co-ordination. For Vluchtelingenwerk, the experience has been so positive that they submitted a new request for another volunteer.
