Greetings, Danish Wiki, this is MoonMan2. I have a few questions about this encyclopedia in this language.

One is, how does this Wiki think of the use of machine translation in articles? I presume that it has bad thoughts on it, since I had a discussion with the German and Dutch Wikis, and they have eagle eyes for the use of machine translation. On the other hand, I have also tried creating articles for the Norwegian and Swedish Wikis with a bit of help from that, and they have worked out pretty well with only small minor problems. I am just asking about how easily this Wiki notices machine translation, since I understand that Danish is a complex language.

Another - do you mind if pages are created by users that speak little or no Danish? I myself am not from Denmark and have never travelled there before, but I do speak a small proportion of Danish. I know there is sometimes an embassy for those who have little to no knowledge of the language of any Wiki, but I am just asking you about that in case.

A third one - do you think some articles of certain subjects are not suitable for this Wiki? I am creating one for this Wiki right now that is about a film based on an animated TV series, and I am a bit concerned about the final result (though a reason why some different language Wiki articles get deleted is often based on the quality of machine translation). I have a feeling that could happen to it once finished.

Those are the questions I was wanting to ask. Anything else you think I should mention, I shall bring it up. Vi ses senere! --MoonMan2 (Diskussion) 00:39, 7. aug. 2016 (CEST)

Hi MoonMan2. I would like to welcome you to Danish Wikipedia. And I would like to thank you for asking these questions here before editing to much. To your questions.
Although we don't forbid machine translated articles in general, it is my opinion that these articles are mostly discouraged. This is due to the poor quality of the results. At the same time we are just a small group of patrollers (compared to the Swedish and Norwegian wikis), and I think that we often tend to reject the machine translated articles rather than helping to improve them – simply because it takes too much time. For me, I can say that I probably would react that way, unless I found the subject of the article interesting myself.
For your next question the answer is probably similar, although I guess that the author gets a little extra credit for not using machine translations. :-) But in the end this will depend on the standard of his/her writing and willingness to listen to advice. Currently, we have a non-native speaking contributor who adds numerous small articles about bird species, but he/she mostly writes one or two sentences, an infobox which contains mostly Latin and few external links. And this guy has learned sufficiently Danish for this, so we have decided that the contributions are valued higher than the trouble of checking/correcting the few mistakes.
Based on this I will say, that subjects with a limited amount of prose would probably stand a better chance of surviving than e.g. film articles. I have taken a brief look at Powerpuff Pigerne - Filmen, and although it is not terrible, I would - as an exception (this is certainly not my normal area of interest!) - help you here. The subject itself is not a problem, but there might be a few obstacles. The official Danish title, e.g. Would you be able to find this? I can't see any suggestions on IMDb, which makes it a bigger challenge. Is the word "Filmen" part of the title, or have you added it to distinguish it from the tv series? Anyway, I will update the text about the plot, and then I suggest we continue specific discussions about this on the talk page for the article.

Yes, Amjaabc, I have read your points. I have had a bit of a look through a few resources, and so far there have not been any links to pages that contain that name. Maybe the film could be known by its English title in Denmark, with "Powerpuff Pigerne - Filmen" as an alternative title, since in Denmark the "Powerpuff Girls" are called "Powerpuff Pigerne". The name is not mentioned in the "AKAs" on the IMDb page, but this is not the only international title that is not included there - there is an existing Polish title for the film that should be there. So I am profoundly sorry if I made the title of this page deceitful.

Somehow, I also believe that how long an article lives for depends on the relevance of a certain section of it. In Powerpuff Pigerne - Filmen, I included the "Danske stemmer" bit because I presumed that the people who were part of the Danish dubbing of the series would have contributed to the film as well. I of course know that with some animated film articles on the Danish Wikipedia there is no "Danske stemmer" section, and I can understand if what I did here might not seem relevant enough.

Thirdly, I have a feeling that the article itself in its entirety could end up being short-lived just because of how it originally had the use of machine translation and how it could contain something that is irrelevant. I get scared whenever I think about that. :( But I can see how you made a few improvements to the "plot" ("Handling") text, and that is great because it shows signs of the article lasting for longer.

I am just trying to be as reasonable as I can here, because I don't want to end up becoming a "disgrace to the entire Wikipedia name" and having to leave every Wikipedia in existance. I am not trying to show off myself to every international Wikipedia user, all I am trying to do is just demonstrate skills and be modest about what I do. --MoonMan2 (diskussion) 7. aug. 2016, 11:55 (CEST)[svar]

But I am starting to notice that the "Danske stemmer" part is relevant because the page on Ole Fick says he did the Danish dubbing of the Mayor ("Borgmesteren") in Powerpuff Pigerne and The Powerpuff Girls Movie. --MoonMan2 (diskussion) 7. aug. 2016, 12:03 (CEST)[svar]
