[rediger kildetekst]Med Salmonsen som kilde stod der fejlagtigt "1756 satte Bønderne paa Rigsdagen i Sverige igennem, at al Indførsel af Kaffe blev forbudt, for at hævne sig paa de andre 3 Stænder, der havde berøvet dem skattefri Brændevinsbrænding".
Men den svenske bondestand havde ingen magt til at gennemføre noget imod de tre andre stænders vilje.
Dertil kom forbuddet først til, efter at rigsdagen var afsluttet. Forbuddet skyldtes rigsrådene Löwenhielm og Lagerberg, der af nationaløkonomiske grunde ville have importen af luksusvarer ned. Man kom til enighed om at nedsætte tolden på kaffe, i håb om at forhindre smugleri: http://forum.skalman.nu/viewtopic.php?t=43176#p659847

"Kaffehus i London, 1600-tallet"

I believe that the engraving which in this draft is titled "Kaffehus i London, 1600-tallet" is, despite its filename at Commons, instead supposed to show a café in Paris. That's because to me, it seems to say at the bottom left "Paris Chez Monsi[eur] Tiolaria" or similar. (The "Tiolaria" in particular depends greatly on my guesswork.) -- Hoary 2. jan. 2026, 07:09 (CET)

- Well, I messed up. Sorry! By scholarly consensus, the print shows a café in England; and I haven't read any claim that it's anywhere in England other than London.
