Skibsbygning
Skibsbygning er byggeri af skibe og andre flydende fartøjer. Det foregår normalt på en specialiseret facilitet som et værft. Skibsbyggere, også kaldet skibstømre, udgør en specialiseret beskæftigelse, som kan spore sine rødder tilbage til tiden før nedskrevet historie.
Skibsbygning og skibsreparation, både kommerciel og militær, kaldes for "flådeingeniørvidenskab". Byggeriet af både udgår en lignende aktivitet og kaldes for bådebygning.
Demonteringen af skibe kaldes for ophugning.
Skibsbygning i dag
I dag er Kina, Sydkorea og Japan verdens største skibsbyggerlande. I 2012 var de tre landes markedsandele, opgjort på lasteevne/kapacitet, på henholdsvis 45 %, 29 % og 18 %. 1 % blev fremstillet i Den Europæiske Union.[1]
