Sally Kirkland (31. oktober 1941 i New York City, død 11. november 2025[1]) var en amerikansk skuespillerinde.[2][3]
Opvækst
[redigér | rediger kildetekst]Kirkland var opkaldt efter sin mor, Sally Kirkland (født Sarah Phinney), som var moderedaktør på Vogue og LIFE og voksede op i Oklahoma.[4] Faren, Frederic McMichael Kirkland, arbejdede i skrotindustrien.[5]
Karriere
[redigér | rediger kildetekst]Kirkland begyndte at optræde Off-Broadway i 1963.[6] Efter nogle få ukrediterede småroller i film og tv kom hun med i undergrundsfilmen Coming Apart (1969). I 1970'erne havde hun små roller i populære film som Sidste stik, Vore bedste år, En stjerne er født og Rekrut Benjamin. Hun blev nomineret til en Oscar for bedste kvindelige hovedrolle for Anna (1987),[7] og hun vandt en Golden Globe Award[8] og en Independent Spirit Award for bedste skuespillerinde i en film.[7][9] Hendes præstation fik udbredt kritisk ros i en forestilling, som Rita Kempley skrev til The Washington Post' som "super".[10]
Kirkland var vært på et ugentligt program på det syndikerede HealthyLife Radio Network.[11]
Kirkland havde hyppige tv-roller, herunder The Simple Life 5: Goes to Camp, Three's Company, The Incredible Hulk, Murder, She Wrote, High Tide og sæbeoperaen Doll of Dolls og Days of our lives. Blandt film, hvor hun har optrådt, er EDtv, JFK, Adam and Steve og Coffee Date.
Velgørenhed
[redigér | rediger kildetekst]Kirkland var også sundhedsaktivist, herunder fortaler for kvinder, der er skadet af brystimplantater. Hun grundlagde Kirkland Institute for Implant Survival Syndrome i august 1998.[12]
Kirkland var ordineret som præst i bevægelsen Movement of Spiritual Inner Awareness.[13]
