Wikidata images[rediger kildetekst]

Hi all,

forgive me my English, feel free to translate this to Danish. I have been trying to help a bit on the Danish Wikipedia last weeks and I have made a category that should help introduce images to pages that dont have them, but where other Wikipedias do have them. To do this I have made a template and a category, see Kategori:Intet lokalt billede, men billede på Wikidata (dont change the category or template without knowing what you are doing pls!). Tomorrow this category will fill up and show a list of pages that dont have an image, but where other Wikipedias do have an image. I dont know how many there will be, but we will see. I know the category has a horrible english name. Please dont change this unless you know what you are doing. I dont speak Danish and dont know the Danish category and template namingstructures that well, so please tell me what to rename it to and how to categorise it and I will make the changes. If you have any questions let me know.

So it is now the next morning. There are now 2200 pages in the category. These pages have a high likelyhood that they miss an image, and that is present on a different Wikipedia. If you add an image to the infobox on the right it should disappear from the category (after a while). The category is not perfect so some pages are in there mistakenly. But I found it a great way to find pages that need images. Sincerely, Taketa (diskussion) 21. maj 2014, 06:09 (CEST)[svar]
The article Svend Auken suggests that you're doing something wrong. Please coordinate things like this with e.g. Bruger:Steenth who has made other categories for Wikidata-related issues. --Palnatoke (diskussion) 21. maj 2014, 06:38 (CEST)[svar]
Hi Palnatoke, yes, on some templates it ignores the local image. I am discussing it on nl.wiki and will come back on this. The cats are usable though. I'll start adding images today or tomorrow. Cheers, Taketa (diskussion) 21. maj 2014, 13:20 (CEST)[svar]
Something has definitely been changed. Look at the beginning of this article: da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horne_Kirke_(Varde_Kommune). It doesn't seem to work properly. --Hubertus (diskussion) 22. maj 2014, 16:51 (CEST)[svar]
Hi Huberus, I think the problems may be caused by some templates using capital letters B in "Billede" and others using small letters b, and some using "image". I used small letters b in all. I will make adjustments to the templates and see if it works. Sincerely, Taketa (diskussion) 24. maj 2014, 18:59 (CEST)[svar]

Hi Taketa, thanks for making this tool, I just added an image to the article about Mike Posner but I couldn't figure out how to remove the article from the Category, there's no category tag in the article itself, how do I do it? Best Regards, InsaneHacker (diskussion) 25. maj 2014, 13:11 (CEST)[svar]

Hi InsaneHacker, once the image is in the template on the article it will disappear on its own from the category. This happens a few times per day. So it may take a while but it should disappear on it's own.
As a status update bwt, I have gone through the images A-Q, and have added images to about 350-400 pages. I will continue with R-Z. What is left in A-Q is mostly useless due to useless images on Wikidata, or because there is a second template on the page without an image, or because the images are not in the template.
I have made an overview page at Bruger:Taketa/Wikidata Images

Update: So far I have added images to 900-1000 pages. Also a bot has uploaded 5000 images to wikidata. I have done a general update and I hope it will fix most issues. I expect alot of new images to be added to Wikidata very soon due to Wikidata the Game now having a game that adds images to Wikidata. 5 million wikidata pages are being reviewed for images. Therefor I expect that alot more images will become available for use on Wikipedia in the coming month. Sincerely, Taketa (diskussion) 7. jun 2014, 21:43 (CEST)

Hi Taketa, I just went into the category to find articles that were missing images, and I noticed that there are a lot of articles that have images, at first I thought they had recently been added and not removed from the category, but when I checked the article history I noticed that the images were inserted a long time before this system was implemented, also someone changed the name to Danish, I hope it didn't cause any problems with the script. Best Regards, InsaneHacker (diskussion) 3. jul 2014, 22:16 (CEST)
Hi InsaneHacker, I had the name changed to Danish on request. You see an image in some articles probably because the article has a second template without an image. This is something I cannot fix, and I skip those articles. Currently I have nearly finished. The first 200 articles in the category are the ones I couldn't do anything with (out of 1200 I could improve). The other 400 are those topic I do not like very much but I am working slowly on it. I can see which ones I have checked an which I haven;t due to links I have clicked already turning purple. Wikidata is very small at the moment and has very few images. However a very large project is ongoing that is checking 5 million articles for images. Currently in 20 days 20.000 have been added by hand (in my estimation that means it will take 15 years to finish, but luckily we have bots :). I can see the new articles filtering in, and am spending most of my time only improving those new pages. So in short, don't worry if the category seems very screwed up and seems to be malfunctioning. This is the normal endstage. Sincerely, Taketa (diskussion) 6. jul 2014, 23:48 (CEST)
