Den første Supergruppe - Cream

Supergruppe er et udtryk fra sidst i 1960’erne. Udtrykket dækker over en musikgruppe, som regel en rockgruppe, som er sammensat af anerkendte og/eller respekterede musikere fra andre grupper eller soloartister. Den første supergruppe var Cream som bestod af Ginger Baker fra Graham Bond Organisation, Eric Clapton, fra The Yardbirds, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, og Jack Bruce fra John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, Manfred Mann og Graham Bond Organisation. Navnet supergruppe skulle have sin oprindelse fra et album der blev udsendt 1968 Super Session med Al Kooper, Mike Bloomfield og Stephen Stills. Koalitionen af David Crosby, Stephen Stills og Graham Nash i gruppen Crosby, Stills & Nash og senere sammen med Neil Young i Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young er et andet tidligt eksempel på en supergruppe, de havde tidligere succes i grupperne The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, og The Hollies henholdsvis.
